Inspection ‘failures’ before Ayrshire derailment

The report criticized the regime for maintaining Network Rail said the bridge and went to corrosion found.
Six of the 10 cars that came off the rails during the incident, and some caught fire, the flames shooting 50 feet into the air.
Power lines have also decreased and the nearby A735 has been closed. It took emergency services for several hours to bring the fire under control.
The production of the resulting fuel contaminated local waterways, wildlife hard.
Immediately after that the derailment was caused by the bridge collapse.
However, the report said the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (Raiber the bridge – a bridge 88) calls – gave way under the weight of the train to bring the case.
The report states: The immediate cause of the derailment was the bridge collapse that followed the disastrous failure of the eastern and central main beam.
Severe erosion has weakened considerably, so that carriers not above the loading of trains, which were able to walk on the bridge. The report criticizes the status of railway maintenance on the bridge and said: ‘hidden erosion remained unknown.
It states that no agreement has been made to inspect the hidden parts of Central and Eastern background, where serious erosion.
Corroded parts of the bridge was not fully restored, as was the bridge in 1987, waterproof.
The report concludes that the bridge has been Repainted when the sealing work is performed or after.
The Raiber also said it was the lack of action after corrosion in an emergency shortage of the report in October 2003.

The operator of the railway infrastructure in the United Kingdom is also required to improve methods and procedures for the revision of the shame the sensitive structures and management of information used for decisions regarding the structural safety of bridges.
Network Rail said the accident occurred inspections of 575 bridges of similar design in the UK – 129 of them in Scotland.
A spokesman said: This was a serious incident, we have investigated more thoroughly examine rayb.
Both investigations revealed that the main cause of the incident to the center of public support for the main beam of the bridge, which had failed under the weight of loaded freight train.

Hubble spots Pluto blushing in space

, Posted in: Thethinkingheaven, Author: admin (February 7, 2010)

Nasa scientists say that dwarf planet Pluto, on the edge of our solar system, is becoming increasingly red.
Images taken by the Hubble space telescope show that the planet is some 20% redder than it used to be.
Experts say they believe this is because of changes in Pluto’s surface ice as it enters a new phase of its 248-year-long orbit.
The new images are said to show frozen nitrogen brightening in the north and becoming darker in the south.
“These changes are most likely consequences of surface ice melting on the sunlit pole and then re-freezing on the other pole,” Nasa’s Space Telescope Science Institute said in a statement.
But some astronomers have expressed shock at the changes.
“It’s a little bit of a surprise to see these changes happening so big and so fast,” said Marc Buie, of the Southwest Research Institute. “This is unprecedented.”
In 2006, astronomers stripped Pluto of its status as a full planet, downgrading it to a dwarf planet.
Further away and considerably smaller than the eight other “traditional” planets in our solar system, Pluto – at just 2,360km (1,467 miles) across – is smaller even than some moons.
But the red tinge is not thought to have had a marked effect on Pluto’s temperature: despite any redness, Pluto’s surface temperature is incredibly cold at -233C (-382F).

Northern Ireland parties agree power-sharing deal

, Posted in: Thethinkingheaven, Author: admin (February 7, 2010)

The DUP has agreed a deal with Sinn Fein over the devolution of policing and justice powers from Westminster to Northern Ireland.
Party leader Peter Robinson said just before midnight that the decision to back the deal had been “unanimous” among the party’s 35 assembly members.
A round-table session of the assembly to discuss the deal is taking place.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his Irish counterpart Brian Cowen have arrived in NI to attend the session.
However, the Ulster Unionist Party has said it will not be attending it.
It said as it was not party to the negotiations it wanted to take the time to consider what was in the deal.
“We have had a very constructive meeting of our assembly group and I had the opportunity to put to them proposals which we have been working on,” said Mr Robinson.
“Everyone present believes that this is consistent with our election manifesto and pledges we have made to the people.
“We look forward to going to Hillsborough and the document should be published.”
The deal is believed to include new arrangements on the oversight of loyalist parades.
DUP assembly member Nelson McCausland said the loyalist marching groups would be very satisfied by what had been agreed and it should eventually lead to new legislation on parades.
The first on policing and justice will set a date of 12 April as date for the devolution of policing and justice powers. It will also deal with the operational independence of the chief constable.
Secondly, a working group to look at reforming the regulation of parades will be set up. That group will report back within a month with a view to getting legislation to the Assembly by June.
Thirdly, there will be details laying out the relationship between the Justice Minister and the rest of the Executive.
Fourthly, there will be a commitment to tackle the “dysfunctionality” of the Executive. The two ministers from smaller coalition parties, the SDLP and UUP, will take the lead in this.
Fifthly, there will a move to free legislation which has become “trapped” in the system.
He said there was no mention of either a new policing college or the savers of the Presbyterian Mutual Society in the document.
Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams welcomed the DUP’s decision and said: “There’s a wonderful chance now in a new spirit for us all to go forward.
“This isn’t just about structures or protocols, it obviously has to be about inspired leadership and people accepting in leadership positions that the citizens want this to work.”
He said there had not been enough movement on the Irish language but that was “work for another day”.
Commending his own party’s negotiating team, he added: “I believe that the Assembly and political institutions can now proceed on the basis of equality, fairness and partnership.
“They also have to deliver for all citizens, that is the collective responsibility of all the political parties.”
On Thursday night Mr Robinson said there was a basis for a deal which he could recommend to his party and to the community.
DUP assembly members gathered at Stormont at about 2200 GMT.

Australian ‘nude photos’ banker gains web support

, Posted in: Thethinkingheaven, Author: admin (February 7, 2010)

Campaigns to save the job of an Australian banker caught viewing erotic images in the background of a live TV interview are growing on the internet.
Business website Here Is The City News has launched a Save Dave section, in support of Macquarie banker David Kiely, who reportedly could be fired.
More than a dozen groups sympathetic to Mr Kiely have been set up on Facebook.
Mr Kiely became an internet sensation after video of him viewing images of model Miranda Kerr appeared on YouTube.
He is due to meet bank chiefs this week, when his future will be decided, media reports say.
Mr Kiely was seen viewing images of a semi-naked Ms Kerr as a colleague was being interviewed live on the Channel 7 evening news programme.
He turned around part way through, apparently in surprise, fuelling speculation that he was the victim of a practical joke.
There are reports that Mr Kiely was deliberately sent an email containing the images and opened it unwittingly, before being told to look round, with the broadcast still in progress.
Messages of support for the banker’s plight have been posted on internet campaign sites.
“Macquarie will be making a PR mistake if David Kiely is sacked,” said a comment on Here Is The City News.
“I’m not a banker, but I have joined the campaign regardless,” said another. “The guy doesn’t deserve to be dismissed.”
The London-based website said it was campaigning for Mr Kiely to keep his job, and was urging readers to email the bank directly with messages of support.
Meanwhile, the incident has generated a surge of interest in Ms Kerr – a 26-year-old Australian fashion and advertising model.
The number of searches for her name on Google soared by 100% after the appearance of the clip on YouTube.

Iran and Iraq exchange bodies of soldiers killed in war

, Posted in: Thethinkingheaven, Author: admin (February 7, 2010)

Iraq and Iran have exchanged bodies of soldiers killed in the eight-year war between the two countries.
Iran handed over the remains of nine Iraqi soldiers, after Iraq gave the bodies of seven soldiers to Iran on Tuesday, according to reports.
It is the second such exchange of soldiers’ remains since Saddam Hussein was ousted from power in 2003.
It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of soldiers are still missing from the war, which ended in 1988.
Last year the countries signed an agreement to search for missing soldiers.
Around a million people were killed in the war, with thousands of prisoners captured on both sides.
Iran’s official reports suggest at least 8,000 Iranians are unaccounted for. Iraq’s Ministry of Human Rights says the Iraqi figure ranges from 375,000 to one million.
In total, the International Committee of the Red Cross says it has helped repatriate some 97,000 prisoners of war (POWs) since the end of the war.
Twenty years after the end of the war, families on both sides continue to search for records of their loved ones in hospitals, morgues and police stations.
